SUMMARY:October 2026 Gathering - Mixed Media Montage
DESCRIPTION:Registration is required and closes October 3rd @ 11:59pm. We suggest a donation of $10 or more to help cover materials\, which you can add at registration or by check made out to Coast Range Association\, our fiscal sponsor. No one is turned away. \n\n\n\n\nOctober is the season for remembering\, and this month Liz Fox shows us how to hold onto a little of it. We are making mixed media montages\, small assembled keepsakes built from old photographs\, found objects\, and bits of ephemera that mean something to you. \n\n\n\nThink of it as a little shrine you can hold in your hand. A vintage matchbox becomes a frame. A tin holds a face. A line of typewritten text names the person\, the place\, or the year. You layer photos\, paper\, and small objects\, along with whatever you carried in with you\, until the piece says what you wanted it to say. \n\n\n\nThese montages look lovely on a shelf\, a windowsill\, or a mantel\, and they make a heartfelt gift. Honor someone you want to remember\, or make one just for the pleasure of the making. \n\n\n\nWe will be at it from 5 to 8 pm. A good montage takes a little time to assemble\, so give yourself the evening and settle in. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring\n\n\n\n\nPhotos\, or copies of photos\, that you want to cut up. Copies of old family pictures work beautifully\, so print a few extras and bring more than you think you need.\n\n\n\nMemorabilia of the person you are remembering\, or small pieces that remind you of them. A ticket stub\, a pressed flower\, a scrap of a letter\, a button\, a bead\, a little keepsake.\n\n\n\nA base\, if you already have one in mind. A special frame\, a pet collar\, a small wooden box\, an old tin. Bring it and we will build around it.\n\n\n\n\nWhat we provide\n\n\n\nCollage materials\, tools\, and a selection of matchboxes\, tins\, and other small items to embellish with. We will also have a typewriter out for adding text to your piece\, so you can title it\, date it\, or set down a few words that belong with it. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Liz Fox\n\n \nMy desire to connect and communicate drives my art and the concern I feel for our planet draws me to be part of the Emerald Curtain Collective. I enjoy sculpting masks of key species that help educate others about our unique ecosystems. \n\n\n\nI’ve lived on the Oregon coast for most of my life and navigated a sea of careers since graduating with a Soil Science degree from OSU in 1980. Retiring as a high school librarian in 2020\, I’ve been a full-time artist ever since\, diving into the riptide I’ve waded in for over 40 years. My marine biologist husband\, Dave and I have 2 amazing children\, 3 unruly dogs\, and live on a swamp between Newport and Toledo. \n\n \n \n \n ECC Blog Posts

SUMMARY:Aug 13 - ECC Monthly Gathering - Simple Landscape Watercolor with Rachel Martino (FREE)
DESCRIPTION:Free registration is required. Registration for this event closes August 8th @ 11:30pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHave you ever wanted to unlock the mystery of painting with watercolor? This month Rachel will guide us through the simple and intuitive process of landscape watercolor\, exploring value and depth\, to create a painting of our beautiful coast range mountains. \n\n\n\nStarting with white paper and working with diluted indigo and black paint\, we will begin with the sky\, and work through each layer of the mountains\, color darkening as they get closer to us. We will finish with a painting of our beautiful coastal mountain range. \n\n\n\nNo experience needed. If you have never picked up a brush\, this is a gentle\, forgiving place to start; if you are already a painter\, it is a calm evening of color with good company on the coast. \n\n\n\nFree registration is required so that we can order supplies for each attendee. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Host\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Rachel Martino\n\n \nRachel Martino is a forest dweller and illustrator. SUMMARY:Emerald Curtain Collective Monthly Gathering
DESCRIPTION:This month’s activity: Prayer Flags Workshop\nIf you were to send out a prayer or wish for the world\, what would it look like? \nThis month\, Willow will lead the group in bringing thought to physical form and action- through creating both a collective prayer flag\, and our own individual sets -for welcoming in the near year with intention. Prayer flags are a beautiful tradition of sending intentions\, blessings\, and prayers out to the universe\, as the wind carries them from the fabric into the ethers. As we evoke them from the heart and mind\, we weave and infuse our prayers into the fabric as we work- through the words and symbols that emerge. \nWillow will share information on what makes this year so unique and important\, with numerology and lunar astrology considerations for setting intentions for 2026\, year of the Fire Horse. \nWe’ll be working with hand-dyed\, up-cycled cotton squares that our volunteers have created from donated materials to craft both a community flag that will be joined together with others’ on a shared string\, “come together in one accord\, and hang them on one cord\, together” as well as a personal set to take home. During our two-hour workshop\, you’ll complete a single community flag and then begin work on your own set; participants are welcome to finish personal flags at home and add prayers\, details and embellishment as inspiration strikes. No pressure to finish everything in one night. 🙂 \nSpace and supplies are limited\, so we’ll need an accurate headcount to prepare kits for everyone. \nRSVP is required before Feb 8th. \nThen\, keep your eyes out for symbols\, designs\, or sayings that would embody your thoughts or feelings- and we look forward to creating with you!

Please email us ahead of time to make arrangements. \nThis is a come-as-you-are\, no-pressure event to foster community building – no experience needed\, you can choose your own level of participation\, & drop-ins are welcome. \nWhat we are making:\nInsect hotels provide essential shelter for native pollinators and beneficial bugs like solitary bees\, ladybugs\, and lacewings—many of whom are losing habitat due to development and pesticide use. These handmade structures give insects a safe place to nest\, overwinter\, and lay eggs\, helping restore balance in our local ecosystems. \nAt this event\, we’ll be building our own insect hotels from scratch using simple wooden kits provided by ECC. Each hotel will be filled with natural materials that mimic the nooks and crannies insects love. \nPlease bring a paper grocery bag filled with foraged or upcycled materials to share: hollow stems\, pinecones\, dry grasses\, bark\, twigs\, bamboo\, seed pods\, moss\, straw\, or wood shavings. \nWe’ll have tools\, extra supplies\, and guidance on hand.
